The Reitman Centre CARERS Program

Have you heard about The Carers Program!?
Individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias experience changes in their memory and other mental abilities, which over time can affect all aspects of their functioning. As a family carer, you may experience complex emotions and stress, and have to take on new roles and responsibilities. At times you may also find it difficult to balance the different aspects of your life. The Cyril & Dorothy, Joel & Jill Reitman Centre for Alzheimer’s Support and Training provides support that will benefit carers and their family members with dementia.

The CARERS Program Can Help.
We are committed to enabling families to care for their family members with dementia. Using the CARERS program you will learn specific strategies, knowledge and skills that will benefit both you and your family member.
The CARERS program is a 10 session therapeutic group for carers that offers the practical skill-based tools and emotional support needed to provide care to family members with dementia.

The key goals of the program include:
• Reduce isolation.
• Develop practical skills to improve communication and interactions
and manage behaviours.
• Identify strategies for self-care and asking for help.
• Learn new approaches for problem solving.
• Enhance sense of capability.
• Provide emotional support, therapy for depression and anxiety.
