The Clarkson Community Centre held the Closing Celebration of Aphasia Day Camp on June 11th. Stroke survivors, caregivers, service providers, family members and friends were all invited to Aphasia Day Camp, an awareness event for stroke survivors with aphasia. For those who don’t know what aphasia is, it’s a communication disorder caused by an injury to the brain, such as a stroke. It can affect a person’s ability to speak, read, and write or to understand the speech of others. Intelligence is not affected. This event offered a recreational day camp for people with aphasia and their family members or friends to experience two days of fun in an inclusive environment.
