City of Waterloo (Ontario)

April 2021 – December 2022

The City of Waterloo and Recreational Respite connected in April 2021 after sharing recent details about a seniors programming project in rural Ontario, that promoted new and existing recreational opportunities for seniors (both in-person and virtual options) and in response to the isolation for so many, during COVID19. The goal of this collaboration includes reducing isolation, encouraging social connection and promoting optimal wellness for seniors of all abilities.

We surveyed local seniors (October 31, 2021) in this region and received over 700 responses!

Thank you for your shares and participation!

UPDATE (April 17, 2022): The City of Waterloo and Recreational Respite are forging ahead! Our team will be developing unique programs in response to the survey results that will then be delivered in person at the beautiful new Community Pavillion, throughout the months of September, October, November and December. Some of the program series will include: Cultural Exploration, Fibre Arts, Creative Writing, Paper Arts, Caregiver programs and intergenerational programming with local community organizations and schools. The programs will be developed to be inclusive and will be developed for the intended diverse participants, including, but not limited to, those who have experienced: brain injury, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia’s.
