 Our Story
Recognizing the need in the community for individualized and meaningful respite solutions, Amy MacFarlane took on the dedication and commitment to creating Recreational Respite. Amy’s passion in the field of health care is united with a hands-on and educated background in Business/Marketing, Personal Support work, Recreation and Gerontology.
Amy's twelve years of experience started as a personal support worker for those in neurological and orthopedic rehabilitation, in a hospital environment. She then continued her studies in Gerontology whilst working in independent and assisted living communities, palliative and hospice care and dementia care. In her most recent career as a Director of Community Relations her marketing expertise in health care business development, has been instrumental in the creation of Community Connections. This relationship with Recreational Respite forms a unique awareness, additional support and advocacy for our clients and their families to maximize their ‘health at home’ options.
Our Team
Our team members are an integral part of Recreational Respite, comprised of Recreation Therapists, Kinesiologists and Personal Trainers (who work specifically with frail geriatric populations and/or individuals with varying physical impairments). They possess a unique and skilled ability to develop, implement and evaluate therapeutic programs that respond to assessed needs and interests of our clients. Our team is able to identify the changing needs of our clients. Through ongoing progress documentation they are able to reduce or adjust specific symptoms or enhance specific functioning skills.
They must possess the skills, expertise and experience coupled with a successful completion of a degree with a Gerontological or multi-faceted health care focus, specializing in Therapeutic programming.
We are dedicated to ensuring that each clients needs’ will be harmonized with that of our skilled team member. Our programs are delivered to our client in the comfort of their own homes, by the same team member every time. This will ensure an unprecedented relationship of friendship, trust, familiarity and continuity. Recreational Respite will offer our services in a non-medical model promoting ‘health at home’ options in a one to one environment.
Our team possesses exceptional interpersonal skills and plays a key role when working with our client, their family members and others significant to the improvement of their health condition.
